Hot Topic, the leader in alternative fashion and licensed fan apparel, merchandise & collectibles, has a great opportunity for a Senior User Experience Designer. This person will help lead Hot Topic, Box Lunch & Her Universe into the future—where websites, apps & stores are seamless, engaging experiences for our customers.

 

We have a lot going on here at Hot Topic, and 2022 will be a busy year for the digital experiences team. This will be a great opportunity to work on a variety of projects with some awesome & talented people. WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Attend & contribute to team meetings, daily scrums & project kick-offs
  • Own & guide the journey, designs and UX/UI details for new projects or platforms assigned to you
  • Understand product specifications, business goals, workflow processes & user expectations/frustrations
  • Conduct competitive research to document similar challenges & solutions
  • Make user research and/or testing recommendations, if needed, with proposed opportunities, strategies & goals
  • Brainstorm & design multiple options, from MVP to long-term, to find the best solution for the project
  • Work directly with product owners, stakeholders & developers to define (and refine) the experience
  • Create wireframes & high-fidelity comps, based on existing design system, creating new components as needed
  • Work with product & technology teams to conduct Visual QA and assist with bug resolution & product pivots
  • Document general UX/UI issues & heuristics for contribution to the issues backlog
  • Brainstorm new ideas, processes & recommendations to enhance Hot Topic’s digital products
  • Collect & contribute to continued competitive landscape research and provide analysis & reporting
  • Review data analytics to document user patterns & challenges and make recommendations
  • Contribute to existing design system, adding new components as needed. Create & update user personas
  • Focus on creating intuitive, user-friendly experiences that enhance the HT brands and engage our customers
  • Be accountable for timely email & chat communication, and respond to Jira tickets, if tagged
  • Be a UX resource for other teams, providing guidance (usability, design consistency, accessibility)
  • Take an active role in learning new skills, overcoming challenges, and engaging with team & cross-functional partners

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in User Experience, Interaction Design, Visual Design or similar experience
  • 5+ years of relevant experience, ideally in eCommerce, including: User Experience fundamentals (Wireframes, User Journeys, Flowcharts & Prototypes), Visual Design fundamentals (Layouts, Components, Icons, Glyphs, Typography)
  • Strong understanding of best practices, expected patterns, design trends, & accessibility requirements
  • Good understanding of platform differences: Mobile Web, Desktop, App (iOS & Android), Social, POS
  • Experience & understanding of User Research methodologies & strategies
  • Experience with component libraries & frameworks, such as Bootstrap, React, etc.
  • Experience working within a team environment, using agile, lean & rapid design/development processes
  • Experience with design software, such as Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, & XD or similar (Sketch, Figma, etc.)
  • Experience with prototyping software, such as inVision, XD, Figma, etc.
  • An interest in pop-culture, whether it be movies, music, television or animation
  • Excellent communication skills: written, verbal & visual
  • A strong understanding of retail, e-commerce, & marketing fundamentals
  • Ability to focus & produce when working alone, and engaged & collaborative in team environments
  • Ability to visualize problems, craft & articulate solutions, and go from idea to execution
