Associate Designer (Non-Apparel)

We are looking for an Associate Non-Apparel Designer to join our Non-Apparel design team. This role is hands on and will help keep the stars aligned for the design and product team.


  • Supports Designer in daily design functions and projections
  • Responsible for working with the Designer to conceptualize, develop, and create unique handbags and wallet designs for Hot Topic and BoxLunch
  • Create handbag silhouette sketches and execute detailed technical sketches with color CADs
  • Assisting the Designer with various tasks like tech pack creation/updates, style number tracking, line sheet creation/maintenance, and CAD revisions. Knowledge of bag construction is important
  • Organize, update and maintain reference libraries (materials & hardware, tech packs, development samples, line sheets, help with email follow up)
  • Create trend / mood boards and present them effectively with cross-functional teams to achieve alignment on projects
  • Research and shop market for trend and inspiration, identifying new emerging trends
  • Work closely with buying, product development, art, and technical design team throughout the development process to ensure the highest level of quality and integrity
  • Assists design team with following the product through its full development process – help review and approve designs
  • Maintain an active role in weekly meetings by taking notes, sending recaps and following up as needed
  • Partner with Apparel Art and Design teams to coordinate collection


  • College degree in design or related field required
  • 3+ years of Handbag design experience, preferably in a corporate/team environment, Licensing, Fashion
  • Must have flat (CAD)Sketching Skills
  • Excellent computer skills including Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, Microsoft word and Outlook
  • A natural organizer and time manager
  • Technical knowledge of non-apparel and hardlines construction, silhouettes, fabrication (i.e. polyurethane), trims, graphics and other applicable materials within cost parameters preferred
  • Strong understanding of Handbag design development process
  • Willing to handle multiple projects at the same time
  • Smells like team spirit – you have great communication skills including the ability to work in a team environment, give honest and direct feedback and have solid verbal and written communication
  • Meets deadlines, prioritizes appropriately, copes well with change and maintains composure under pressure
  • Geek Knowledge is a PLUS!
  • Must be knowledgeable in Pop Culture & Licensing
