Description

We are a leading retailer specializing in pop culture and music merchandise that is on the search for a VP, Planning and Allocation who will provide leadership and direction to the team with regards to the planning and execution of merchandise orders, assortments and replenishment strategies for Hot Topic brand.  In this role you will optimize the financial results (sales, gross margin and profit) for the division along with Merchandising, Store Operations, Marketing, Finance and Distribution Centers.  Coaches and develops the P&A team and creates an environment that supports and rewards for excellent performance and professional growth. 

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Guide the creation of original dollar by merchandise category: sales, margins, markdown, mark-up, and inventory turn.
  • Lead and develop a high performing team. Your goal is to develop entrepreneurial individuals that collaboratively develop strategic plans. You stimulate proactive and forward-thinking analysis, and both encourage and reward your team for improvement and innovation.
  • Drive the development of both long-term and short-term financial objectives for Hot Topic  brand including sales, average store sales increase %, gross margin % and inventory turn.
  • Partner with various business units on the planning of margins, mark-up, markdown, discounts, promotions, events and advertisement; you’ll collaborate and build a global approach.
  • Monitor the performance and makes necessary adjustments based on trends and changes in theme, style, season, etc.
  • Sets strategic directions and provides resources (manpower and systems) for the P&A team to achieve the financial objectives.
  • Ensure that the P&A team partners with Buyers in developing assortment strategies by store and theme in order to maximize sales in all volume stores by providing a wide array of style.
  • Ensure communication of store level results to buyers so they have a full understanding of test/performance results prior to ordering/reordering.
  • Solicit feedback from all business partners to understand their issues and concerns, and to improve the effectiveness of team communication. You’ll bridge real time customer analytics with historical analysis.
  • Develop and manage overall P&A budget including payroll, expenditures, travel expenses, and quarterly budget forecasting.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • At least 10 years of progressive retail allocation and merchandise planning experience. You’ve consistently moved up and made measurable impact every step of the way
  • 4 years+ of leading planning and allocation teams.
  • Leadership – you know how to rally the troops and get the best/most out of everyone. You can provide context, incentive and hold everyone accountable to targeted results.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset. You think outside the box, and encourage your team to do the same; creating a safe environment that encourages innovation and risk taking.
  • Deep acumen in developing high level strategic plans for large scale business. You have a hands on approach, and are comfortable communicating up and down the organization.
  • Planning & Priorities – You’ll develop well thought out goals and plans with consideration to overall company objectives; and are able to anticipate changing priories as the business dictates, and effectively adjusts and communicates plans to all affected teams.
