As the Social Media Specialist at Hot Topic you’ll be asked to binge-watch shows on Netflix, see the most recent Superhero movie and listen to the latest up & coming pop-punk band… then post a story about it on Instagram. We’re looking for someone obsessed with music, pop culture, fashion, technology and the latest social media trends. The Social Media Specialist will provide administrative support and coordination to the Social Media team with daily operations and implementation of marketing projects and campaigns on social media, ensuring creative and communications reflect the Company accurately.


  • Create and maintain the social media content calendar and track creative briefs for content and campaign assets
  • Work with Social Media Photographer, creative services, video production and merchants to create exciting content for all social media channels
  • Assist in scheduling daily content on all social media channels
  • Responsible for social media weekly, monthly and quarterly reporting and tracking
  • Partner with copywriting and social media team to ensure all external communications and copy are on brand
  • Coordinate and execute sweepstakes prizing and fulfillment
  • Manage user-generated content; gain user approvals, approving and scheduling UGC
  • Manage store social account logins and toolkit
  • Stay up to date with influencers and content creators and partner with Influencer Specialist to activate influencers/creators
  • Brainstorm new and creative ways to amplify content and increase engagement


  • BA in Marketing, Business Administration, Communications or equivalent preferred
  • 2 to 3 years prior marketing experience or equivalent
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows-based computer applications
  • Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and InDesign, preferred
  • Experience with Facebook and Instagram Insights
  • Prior experience with blogging or running social media for other brands preferred
  • Illustrates a dedication to meeting requirements of internal and external customers, responding to all customer requests promptly and thoroughly
  • Strong communication skills including ability to work in a team environment, give honest, direct feedback and is a solid verbal and written communicator
  • Strong ability to multi-task and seamlessly move from project to project
  • Strong understanding of industry trends and demonstrated knowledge and proven ability to identify marketing opportunities
  • Passion and open mind regarding music, pop culture and fashion trends
  • Meets deadlines, prioritizes appropriately, copes well with change and maintains composure under pressure
  • Is accountable for results, approaches obstacles proactively and looks for ways to resolve problems and issues
  • Open to working nights and weekends
  • Ability to travel to events
